"Eliana" - Titanium-Coated Brazilian Amethyst Drusy and Vermeil Necklace
An exquisite necklace featuring a lightweight Brazilian amethyst teardrop with a spectacular metallic titanium coating that catches and reflects the light with beautiful brilliance.
The necklace has as focal a pendant measuring 23x57mm (approx. 3/4x2 1/4") including the bail. The golden hue of the micro-crystals in the center contrast with the dark metallic purple around them, making the drusy seem like it is glowing from within. The pendant is set on a double vermeil (gold over sterling silver) chain, a portion of which is adorned with tiny faceted amethyst rondelles for a more interesting visual effect.
Overall length of the chain is 18" and closure is a fancy hook clasp.
Handcrafted - AN ADORA original design.
Amethyst is a meditative and calming stone which works in the emotional, spiritual and physical planes to provide calm, balance, patience and peace. Purple Amethyst has been highly esteemed throughout the ages for its stunning beauty and legendary powers to stimulate and soothe the mind and emotions. It is a semi-precious stone in today’s classifications, but to the ancients it was a “Gem of Fire,” a Precious Stone worth as much as a Diamond. It has always been associated with February, the month the Romans dedicated to Neptune, their water-god, and is the traditional birthstone of that month. It is the stone of St. Valentine and faithful love, and signifies ecclesiastical dignity as the Bishop’s Stone. It carries the energy of fire and passion, creativity and spirituality, yet bears the logic of temperance and sobriety.
The best varieties of Amethysts can be found in Siberia, Sri Lanka, Brazil and the far East.
Drusy, druse, druzy, drusies - different spellings, but they all mean tiny quartz crystals that form within or on the surface of other stones. When ground water carrying dissolved silica is forced into a porous area of the rock, rapid cooling often occurs, causing the formation of tiny crystals on the surfaces or in cavities of the rock. The clear crystals often form on top of previously deposited minerals. This is called a drusy.
Titanium drusy is drusy that has been coated with titanium in a vacuum chamber. It produces a permanent metal coating in spectacular shades that are hard to reproduce in other ways.
